SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING
AND MATH (STEM) EDUCATION
The Foundation
and the Fund believe that a nation’s strength in the fields of engineering and
science enables its capacity to perform, enhances its opportunities
for innovation, and leads to a better quality of life for society as
a whole. The Directors have a particular interest in enhancing
engineering education and supporting public awareness and
appreciation of the contributions made by engineering and science to
society’s welfare.
To meet these
objectives, the Foundation and the Fund seek to:
- Promote
excellence in math, science, and engineering education,
particularly at the elementary school level
- Promote
opportunities to increase the number of young people entering
the STEM career and teaching paths
- Support
organizations and programs that advance public awareness of the
importance of engineering and science
ENVIRONMENT
The Foundation and the Fund
believe that the earth and its inhabitants require a fine balance
between natural order, conservation of resources, and those
demands inherent in improving the standard of living and
development. The Directors have a special interest in
the
restoration and conservation of California wetlands and waterfowl
and the
conservation of ecologically significant open spaces that enhance
the understanding, use, and enjoyment of the outdoors for all
sectors of society.
To meet these objectives, the Foundation and the Fund seek to:
-
Promote and support conservation and restoration
of California wetlands and riparian habitats
-
Promote balanced solutions to California’s water
resource challenges, particularly the risks facing the
Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
-
Support research and programs that promote
incentives and policies for sustainable conservation
-
Support programs that increase environmental
literacy
-
Support the development, restoration, improvement
and protection of national and local parks, especially San
Francisco Bay Area urban parks
