The S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation -- a family foundation -- was founded in 1957 by Stephen Bechtel, Jr.

The mission of the S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation is to support well-managed non-profit organizations that provide quality programs and create significant sustained benefits in areas of special interest to the Founders and Directors.

The Foundation’s primary geographic focus is the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Foundation also provides limited support to selected civic and cultural institutions.

The Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals and does not currently publish an annual report. However, brief letters of intent (not to exceed two pages) that focus on a primary or secondary program area of the Foundation and are within the geographic focus of the Foundation may be reviewed, with the possibility of being invited to submit a full proposal.

The Foundation does not provide endowment funding.
